Ben was out on Saturday doing the Breathless Agony. The kids and I also did our own bike ride, 9 miles round trip. I laugh at the comparison, but it was the longest the kids have ever ridden. We also had to take frequent breaks to adjust sunglasses, underwear, shorts, backpacks, administer first aid, remember cyclist etiquette ("Stay on the right side of the path Gordon!") and eat. The reason we did this ride was because Ben had the van for transport to the Breathless Agony, and yesterday was the opening day for the Young Master's Art exhibit. Jillian had a piece of art she completed earlier this year that was chosen for the exhibit, so we went to see it and the accompanying art
festival.
This is a few minutes before Evelyn crashed and cut her chin open. A passing cyclist stopped to help her up. I was glad for the inspiration to pack band aids, salve and ibuprofen before we left the house, because she ending up needing all of it. We weren't too far away from the art festival when it happened, and she was a champ and kept on going. I think the lure of lemonade, cookies and face painting helped.
When the festival was over we headed to In n Out for dinner, where the kids enjoyed a rare milkshake in honor of Ev's big bike crash and our bike ride. Just as we were re-entering our apartment complex, the front wheel on Gordon's bike seized and and we had to carry it home. I was so grateful that it happened close to home.
In front of the Bouganvilla. So pretty.
Gordon also got to try out tae kwon do this week with his friend Max. He was nervous to get out there at first (he does this suddenly-get-nervous business once in a while and it totally throws me off because he is my total go-getter kid) but had a fun time and wants to go again.
Good buddies.
